Yep, I saw it last night. The Perverse Enjoyment of the Christ. What is wrong with Gibson?!? Did he think with all this censorship sadists can't get enough material to jack off to? Maybe he, as a christian fundamentalist, thinks Jesus didn't suffer quite enough and that's why god is letting the world go down the drain, so this movie is staging the kind of senseless suffering that would even god make go: "Well yeah, this should count for something, hmmm ..."

I don't understand ... what is the point of this movie? Where is the redemption? WHY did Christ suffer? Are WE supposed to feel guilty? Or are we supposed to hate Jews even more, besides the traditional antisemitism? The ending implies: 'You can't kill God.' But ... you can make a pizza out of him? WTF?

I have this feeling that the more brutal the scenes the more christians are prepared to say it's the truth, "that's the way it has happened" (quoting John Paul II.). Splatter and gore as the vouchers for truth? This movie is pathetic and it pissed me off because it implies I personally owe something to this poor man.

I know it's passe but ... what are your views? And religious people ... is it important to be aware of the amount of suffering Jesus went through? Aren't the teachings what matters? Call me a naive atheist but this doesn't make sense.

well, I'm atheist myself so what I did was simply not watching it because I just don't care about it or Gibson. That works really well. That has also worked well with Britney Spears's movie.

Well, I've seen it and it was a total waste of time. Half an hour in you're just sitting there "can't the guy just die!"

that is not a biblical movie, that's a special effects flick.

If they put Sam Reimi on command, it would rule SO DAMN MUCH!

anyway, on a christian's orthodox vision, today's christians have forgotten how much jesus has suffered for them. THAT is the extreme of what that point of view can generate: Gibson makes a 2 hour movie that could be the videoclip for a Cannibal Corpse song.

For the atheists, the movie strucks them with this: we KNOW that Jesus existed. It's been documented on several religions. IF his suffering was indeed like that, that is no human way to take it all like that, so there must have been some "unknown" force keeping him going. So it's interesting for someone who wants to gather followers, he's creating a seed of faith.


In my view, God is a smart dude, so if it is like the bible told us, there is a chance that Jesus didn't feel anything, God just had Industrial Light and Magic B.C and a predecessor of James Caviezel working a big show.

THEREFORE Mel wants to be GOD.

Its just another story to me. I mean seriously, there are people who have suffered worse and there was no movie made about them. I did feel guilty after watching it, and I might have cried a little bit, but then I realized that I was falling in to the religious guilt trap and then quickly put on some SLAYER.

This melodrama is the same stuff used by all fundamentalists to keep the sheep in their flocks and I am tired of being subject to it. Its hard not to be moved by the imagery, but I just cant buy that "Jesus died for all of my sins."

1. What sin? I try very hard to be the best person that I can be, and judeo-christian values do not hold the monopoly on morality.

2. Jesus didn't even know me. He doesnt talk to me now. I really would like to hear from god but he just ain't talking. Because I am not able to hear him, do I go to hell? Would he send the deaf to eternal damnation because they were unable to hear?

3. For the son of god, you think he would have been able to live better than he did. Maybe invent the first automobile and drive his way around galilee. Jeez. I think he needs a little more going for him than just the silly little David Blaine parlor tricks and some Jewish wisdom to be the son of god.

4> Why the hell was satan always around the dude? Satan never pesters me or anyone that I know like that. The people that he does pester are either really religious or in a mental institution, which may be the same people just at different stages in their life. Thou protesteth too much Jeez-dog.

I haven't seen The Bashing of The Christ, so I can't comment.
It would have a helluva job stacking up against The Life of Brian though... Maybe Mel is just a frustrated Pythonist?
And Braveheart, for it's mass of factual historical errors is still a good "yarn". Though the real Mr. Wallace would have been big enough to use Mr. Gibson as a Q-tip.

Well the only thing I have faith in is the Law of averages which states that as good as you (all of us) put in, you (all of us) will get out. It will not be ten-fold like it says in the bible, but I can live with that. I have learned a lot in my short time and one of those things is that if you disregard everything that comes out of a "spiritual" person's mouth, regardless of deity, the truth is easy to see.

The world (universe) is all about vibration and the lack of vibration. Vibration is what we call energy, the lack therof is called entropy. So here we are in a Cosmic Black box, on a planet surrounded, nay bathed in energy from a source that is unknown. We know that without the energy bath, vibration ceases and entropy starts to slowly steal away whatever energy we have in reserve. So we walk/grow towards the places that are bathed in energy. This is true for all life, plants animals alike. This is a delicate system, built in three dimensions out of (possilbly) multi-dimensional stuff by what Aristotle called the "Prime Mover". The prime mover is the "being/thing" that wound up the energy clock and watches it, slowly very slowly unwind.

If you look at the world empirically (based off observable evidence), God really doesn't care any more for me, than for the cat that was hit by the car when I tried to save it from a dog. The prime mover doesn't seem to care about life or death or love, just that every thing that vibrates at one time, eventually stops vibrating. Almost as if it was an experiment in seeing how long the bowling ball takes to stop its roll. While we are here we might as well save ourselves.

In fact, Salvation itself is one of the most human things on the planet. God did not invent that, we did when we built the first fire, the first walls, the first club. Salvation is a social structure and family and morality and NOT going around the globe converting people like it says in most (some) religions.
