I hear there gonna start a new album, not sure if bob rock is going to produce them though. They need someone that will tell them to forget all there pansy drama bullshit and just make good songs, i think devin could do it.

It's about time they produced something themselves.

Fucking oath. I'm sick of hearing about how they are the "greatest band in metal ever".

well they probably are
IMO its SYL :) but there is no denying that Metallica is the most influential metal band EVER.
i thought st. Anger would have been good if the production was at least decent, here were some solos, the drums didnt sound like pots and pans and james didnt try and hit notes he cant reach anymore.

DROP BOB!!!! PICK UP MR. TOWNSEND!!!!

Hear hear! And hopefully Dev would tell them to write proper songs, and not just record a shitload of riffs and paste them together in ProTools (Which is how they made 'St.Anger'; could have been a great album if they'd been more focussed)...

...and force James to stop recycling old lyrics (Anyone else cringe when they hear the "...hit the lights on these dark sets" line in 'St. Anger'?)...

...and, fuck it: lock Lars in the basement and get Gene in on drums! I'm starting to really like this idea...

I don't care how "influential" they were...they are the epitome of commercial music and are the poster boys for the RIAA. Screw Metallica.

I actually have plans for forming a shadow government that will, in essence, be totalitarian and have complete control over the world's economy, in which case I will make myself ridiculously rich, which will lead me to my purchase of 2 of Saturn's moons and funding a Death-Ray research facility on one of them. Not to say that will make me influential, though.

I'd love to see it, but It'll never happen. Unfortunately, you have to be a big name in the business to produce Metallica, that's just the way they run these days. Sad, I know. If Metallica have any worthwhile material left in them, I know Devin could get it out of them.

How about Byron could play bass? And get Jed to do some guitar-work? Hey, I know, let's just put the next Strapping album out and put Metallica's name on it. Blow everybody's mind right out the fucking door!

Strange, I'm sure I saw a couple of threads the other day where Devin got upset about people downloading his music.
Metallica just got some pretty bad advice from people within the RIAA /5years ago/

They've said how much they regret the backlash but you have to understand that they thought they were helping fellow musicians. It was unfortunate that the recording industry has taken 5 years to get any semblance of a reasonable online model for distribution. They fucked up, Metallica fucked up, but to not like Metallica because of that is ridiculous.

Hate Stanger (I do) for being a glued together, badly produced muddle of psychiatrist skewed rubbish, and pity the band for appearing in a film showing them falling apart, but they still have written some of the best metal in history.

I still hold out hope that they'll come back. I just wish they wouldn't listen to their loudest "fans" who dumped on them when Load & Reload came out (which contained some of their most original material) & try to recreate their classic thrash albums - Megadeth & Slayer are more than capable of living in a timewarp, Metallica are best when they're ignoring what's popular (or what people expect of them)

Blimey, that was a waffle. I think they should self produce, and get a decent engineer, like Devin, or Andy Sneap or Steve Wilson.

I reckon Metallica should just get rid of Lars Ulrich, thats the only reason the last album was so crap...mainly becasue of that childish drumming which sounded like a angry kid bashing on a fourty gallon drum with a stick. Or better yet, try and not make an album based on what the public would think..just make something that they would enjoy playing instead of this bogus crap, as they said it "going back to our roots, making a garage band sound". Cleary this isn't what Metallica wanted, it's just a shamble reason to get back into the good books of those hard core Metallica fans that didn't like Load and Re-Load.

I myself use to love Metallica, but I have given up now...clearly this band has no more juice left in them...it gets abit boring listening to there music being played over and over again on the radio and not to mention in clubs and bars...I have heard them so much, there music does not give me the same satisfaction as it did when I first heard them. I reckon they should make this album and hang there boots up...I reckon they have had a decent run.

But on the subject of Dev producing the next album, thats a great idea. :P

I totally agree. I liked and still do really like a lot of those two albums. Yeah at the time it was a big departure from their trademark sound but songs like Bleeding me are brilliant songs in my opinion.

I would have much rather they made songs in a similar vein to Load and Reload than attempt to regain some credibility with metal fans and release St.Anger. Having said that though if you listen to the St.Anger songs played on the DVD that came with the album they sound 10x better. That production style was terrible.

Dev producing Metallica would be brilliant to see/hear. I hope Metallica stop concerning themselves with what is cool and lead the fucking way again. Why would they want to be like some of the shit nu-metal tinged crap out there now!
