<bows his head> he inspired me to pick up the guitar...it's so depressing. I was going to head to the bar for a birthday...but it will have to be a memorial as well. Dime, I'll have some JD in your name.

Still remember getting that call about it. It was a friend of mine who is/was (not sure anymore) in the band Speedealer, and the way he said it was actually kind of funny, but the actual news was anything but. A year without Dimebag, it's doable, but it isn't the same.

Yeah, very true, two people who had an insane influence on music and their respective genres (or music as a whole in Lennon's case) gone, less than 25 years apart, both gunned down. A very sad day in history.

Ugh I can't believe it. As soon as someone dies, they become a legend.
Same with this punk. He was not that much of a guitar player, and Pantera was a suck-ass band (my opinion).
Then he gets shot, and all of a sudden he's the best guitar player to ever walk the earth and Pantera is the best band ever.

As far as I care, he's still a crappy guitar player, Pantera is still a crappy band. The huge fuss about him being killed is the thing that annoys me the most about the whole issue.

ever thought about the possibility that Dime was a real "star" for some fans and that loads of people (incl. me) loved his freaky guitar works?

Don't soil his name...that's lame imho. You may have your opinion and that's ok, for sure. But please don't deal with it in this way, as you may insult other fans.

Thanks for understanding

Nils

Amen. Everybody should have their own opinion BUT IMO, in a proper way.
Like you mentioned, without insulting other people. I didn't like Pantera that much but I respected the achievment of their skills which includes Dime's guitar wichtcraft.
R.I.P. Big Man.

I don't like Pantera. I didn't particularly like Dimebag's guitar work. I don't think he suddenly a musical legend because of what happened. I give my support because no musician deserves to be shot dead whilst simply playing the music they like for no reason other than some screwed up idiot thought he "betrated" him.

That was such a horrible thing to say. Don't be a dick.

I'm not being a dick, I'm not trying to insult anyone. I'm just being realistic.
The guy became a legend the second he was shot (and he's not the first time this happened. Artists tend to bloom after a tragic death).

Of course it's horrible that he was shot. It is horrible when anyone is shot, not just for a musician.

I just think that it's all so hypocrite. When he was alive, you wouldn't hear anything about him or Pantera, I didn't even know of the excistence of a band named Damageplan. If he hadn't been killed, I probably wouldn't have known he was alive.
Then when he gets shot, all of a sudden he's a big hero, everyones favourite, people worship him.

There is a time and there is a place. This is neither. I am not a big fan of Pantera etc, but I still respect the effect Dime had in many peoples lives and for that I will be toasting him tonight after work.
