Just wanted to know, amongst you all, who has a 2.1 or 5.1 (or whatever.1) speakers kit for PC ?
Are you happy of it ?
I'm thinking of buying one before I get broke again^^, cuz' I'm sick of listening SYL and DTB and a few others on something like 2W speakers...

I think I'll chose a 2.1 rather than 5.1 cuz' I don't watch many movies, and for the price of a low or middle grade 5.1, I'll have a good 2.1.

This one looks nice (of course, it's the most expensive logitech...):

It's supposed to have some nice bass, that could be great for Alien ultra-bass^^
Only problem is that it's about 80 to 130$ is the US, and about 150 to 180$ in France... WTF ?!

I have 5.1 and love it, mainly for games though. Just make sure you have enough room on your computer desk before you choose 5.1 I barely have the room.

I use a full home cinema seperates system for my PC, as well as music. However, most of the time I listen to music in stereo (2.1 I suppose) as unless it is a surround encoded source (eg DTS music DVDs) then it will never sound as good in 5.1, I find.

I think particularly for metal, a good stereo (2.1 or whatever) system will always have more drive, power and punch than a 5.1 setup. If you listen to classical music, maybe thats different then. In most cases, movies will of course sound far superior in 5.1.

So I would say, if you are short of money then go for the best 2.1 system you can afford. A good 5.1 will potentially sound better, but only if you spend a fair amount of cash.

Having a nice subwoofer makes just about anything sound awesome anyway!

I've never played a game in 5.1 in my life, my headphones do it for me enough. I've always wondered what it would be like however.

I have a Creative Inspire P380 2.1 speaker set and I'm pretty satisfied with the sound of it. The speakers tend to fall on their back quite easily tho.
And the subwoofer bas trouble with punchy bass. Which makes the kit suck actually. But it was the cheapest 2.1 set around, that's why I bought it. I only play lousy MP3 anyway.

EDIT: I stuffed the hole in the side of the bus with a sock and it pretty much clears out the bass problem. But when I put my fingers in there (pre-sock) there seemed to be a lot of wind in there. Would the sock be harmfull?

Ok guys, as I said I don't watch many movies and don't play much, but maybe I don't feel like it's so useful cuz' I never had a chance to test the difference...
But thinking of it, the 2 surround speakers of a 5.1kit would be placed respectively :
-right in the middle of my room
-right in the middle of my bed
So that's maybe not the best idea.

I listen to music in stereo as unless it is a surround encoded source it will never sound as good in 5.1.

M'kay, that's exactly what I was wondering^^.
THe sound coming from all around may be nice, but if I you say, it's in the end not as great as regular 2.1, then I may not bother with wires all around my already messy room^^.

Well, with a 5.1 system you dont have to listen to music in the 5.1 mode. I rarely do this, as I just switch it over to stereo. It is kinda cool to have the option though.

The front speakers are where the most fun is though heh.
