The new Opeth is quite amazing.

Those of you who are keen on excercising their restraint, I would recommend sticking to your guns because the only track that has leaked so far is in shit quality...

...but I listened to it, and it is fucking glorious. This stuff is a lot more moody than anything the've done before, the addition of a permanent keyboard player (Per Wikstrom, who toured with them for Damnation) has made them sound both more progressive and also more black metal.

There is a definite Meshuggah influence, but they still don't sound anything like Meshuggah (thankfully)... you can just tell that they have been listening. The main give-away is how simple the parts are now, they fit like clockwork instead of being the usual twisty-turny spiderweb like riffs that Opeth have always done. Now they are more deft, more powerful, they have an immensity that Opeth have never had before.

And Mickael's singing is fucking HUGE!!!!! The keyboard parts are gorgeous, the arrangement is fucking perfect, and the whole thing is just coated in this sinister vibe... We have got what could be the greatest Opeth album ever to look forward to!!!!

I did notice the keys being particularly good in the song that was posted earlier. There was a very creepy melody...I thought it was excellent.

I will restrain myself though...or try to anyway.

I also hope that RR will give Opeth enough funding to release something in 5.1 - there has been rumours of this for too long!

didn't really impress me to be honest. But I will judge the whole thing after I heard it because the quality of that mp3 was really poopy. Didn't really like the riffs..in Meshuggah I do....but not in Opeth.

The 'Meshuggah style' riffage people refer to in that songs actually reminds me of the Opeth song April Ethereal...though maybe I am alone in that one.

I am sure it will be good, even if it isn't their best effort....I'll take anything Opeth release as I know it will be better than the majority of bands these days.

Yep.

well yes...and who knows, this song might not be representative for the whole record at all.

I found it to be a big departure from the old Opeth, and I'm not too excited about it yet. There is a keyboard sound that is really Porcupine Tree in there towards the start.

I'm fence sitting for the time being.

I can't deal with shit quality leaks anymore, I remeber the System Of A Down one for B.Y.O.B it was horrible turned me off it completly until I acually heard it when it came out. So im waiting... that and I've got a shitty internet connection and the file is like 26 meg. I'm exited about it though, from what people have been saying it should be awsome.

The new song is for me at this point......just okay. They should NOT play those meshuggah-like riffs imo. The song is not bad at all but I feel that it is missing that extra Opeth touch...

nah i wont. dont care about the quality, but that song was god awful and the most boring thing id ever heard. compare it to any BWP song and there is your answer - doesnt even stand up to the greatness.

oh and another thing, listen to The Offspring - Defy You ..... i know songs sound the same eventually, and you guys may not hear it - but when i heard the intro, all i could think was Offspring :D

I'm trying to restrain myself so i can hear the whole thing at once... or at least hear good quality parts. It's not easy though. Not easy at all.

I will easily restrain myself.....I'm really not sure what to expect from this new album ,but it should at least be interesting.

i was reminded of a Tea Party song, but I can't remember the name since I haven't listened to them in like 4 years.
