Now of course, I found my way here by knowing that the most profound and absurdly talented and not-necessarily-clinically-sane artist on the planet very well may be Mr. Townsend. This noted, what other music do Devheads listen to? I can only offer my choice and am interested in some of yours. I think Opeth are brilliant, and I think Nevermore are making sure that American metal is by no means dead. Control Denied and Death, I mean come on. Great. Tool. Mike Patton and how he captures a different but also supremely valuable vocal quality like our friend Devin. What about you guys? Any surprising answers? Any Adam Ant fans checking up on the forum? Let's hear it.

Five bucks says Sinkharmony drops Opeth first...

....probably Hypocrisy, Therion or Nile...

Figured I'd post before the thread gets moved.

Opeth. Aha, you owe me five bucks. Or did you mean that Opeth is the first band that Sinkharmony mentions? Oh well.
Nevermore is a great band indeed...really great lyrics, both emotional and the kind that make you think. Loomis is a great guitarist too, awesome riffs and does for me with solos what Petrucci can't. I should go give The River Dragon a listen just because of that riff...
Same goes for Death, great guitarist and lyricist there, although Chuck's lyrics did sometimes have a bit too much of media-angst in them.

For me there's a lot of them, and I won't bother mentioning most. Pain Of Salvation, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Ayreon, Emperor, Green Carnation, Katatonia, Nightwish, My Dying Bride etc.

These threads are kind of boring, especially if people just list their own bands instead of commenting on others...

I'm not going to mention the albums; the list would be too long for people to read...
You know, all the classics!
Let's metal!
