They have been running a Stanley Kubrick retrospective on TV here over the past few weeks, with one of his films running every Sunday night.
I was just wondering what you all thought of his films, as I've found his cinematography and lighting sense to be almost without peer. It all goes back to when I was
very young and my Mother took me to see "2001: A Space Odyssey". Many many years later it remains my top flick of all time, for reasons that would take forever to explain...
What are your thoughts?

Barry Lyndon was a commercial failure and too long but when I saw it I was in a right mood and really enjoyed it A LOT.
Shining is awesome of course. The camera work is one of the best ever. Ok camera work best might be "Panic Room" I think.

I was tempted to vote The Shining purely because of Jack Nicholson going absolutely mad, but Full Metal Jacket had a more profound effect on me, and I still hold it in as high regard today as when I first saw it so that gets my vote.

I have to go with Clockwork, that movie changed the way I thought about motion pictures entirely. Kubrick is one of the greats if not the greatest and I was devastated when he passed away. All his movies were different and provocative in seperate ways. I don't think there is a director alive right now that matches his perfection and diversity.

here's a question for you then....
if Kubrick had managed to complete his AI project before he died, without leaving a large chunk of it to be completed by Steven Spielberg, would it have been better, worse or the same as that which was released with Haley Joel Osment and Jude Law?
