i dropped it once and now it wont turn on. i think i payed good money for a quality product, instead i get a shonky fashion accessory

I've dropped mine a couple of times (4th gen monochome screen) and it's fine.
I dropped mine in the washing machine and it only lasted two weeks until I did it again and everything inside rusted.

What do you guy's think is better, a flash drive mp3 player or a run of the mill 1GB MP3 player like an I-river? Does one have an advantage over the other?

Cheers Sab, i'll have to look into it. My mate has one and he hasn't had any problems either...it's just I-pods are so mass produced at the moment and everyone thinks there awesome cos it's a famous brand...what a bunch of horseshit. The I-pod is probably the worst mp3 player ever invented.

I have an el-cheapo mp3 player which has lasted me 3 more years then the I-pod I bought last year. That thing only lasted about 4 months until I left it in my clothes and went through the wash.

I bought an iPod because it's easy to use, has shitloads of memory and i can watch movies on it. Not because of any sort of brand "horseshit."

I'll try not to put it in the wash though, along with my money, pets and small relatives. :P

That said, my iPod will probably die in the arse tomorrow! ;)

The (relatively) cheap flash drives go up to 4GB or something these days. Hard drive players are from 1GB and go way up to... 60 or 80?

So the real issue is, do you really want such a shitload of memory? Generally, flash drives have better battery duration than the harddisk drives. So I would say, if you don't need many many many gigabytes, get a flashdrive with a couple of gigabytes and make sure it supports albums and playlists.

Does anyone have any experiences with the Archos GMini XS202? I was thinking of getting one because it's cheap and 20GB and should work with Linux. Here's a pic:

Good Idea: Throwing a penny in a fountain.
Bad Idea: Throwing your cousin Penny in a fountain.
Yay for Animaniacs!

Here's my mp3 player as it looked new:

And it's been through the wars a bit, but it still works great! It's just a bit battered:

Heeheeheeheee!

You should see my old MiniDisc player...it looks a bit like that. Only worse! Though it still finds use as my main source of sampling.

I'm so hardcore that I still use my other 'new' MiniDisc player to play music. I'm well cool, me.

So what does that have to do with it? They didn't fix it because they are...ummm...evil? Like in that South Park episode?

The same happened to me with my Zen and has happened continuously since.

I am currently thinking of getting an ipod, mainly for the fact you can get all the car accessories for it etc. but I have no clue whether to get the ultra cute pink nano (4gb) or to get a normal 30gb ipod.

That avatar of yours provides more than enough of the cuteness. Get a normal one!

What is it with women that they prefer pink over use?

By the way: Don't get an iPod. Just don't.
