fuck! how many covers have they done?
That wasn't Type O Negative.
Source:
The song was recorded back in 1996 to piss off my girlfriend, who loved the Sarah McLachlan song. I had no idea I would be pissing people off well into the 21st century, but then again I suppose doing anything related to Type O Negative could result in catastrophe. I used to sing the song to her, two octaves lower than Sarah’s voice. I was a pretty big Type O freak at the time.
*The Story*
So, I was taking a recording class at Oneonta State (a lovely University in the shitty, frozen hills of upstate New York) and I was required to record a full song as my final project. I decided to see if I could destroy the lovely Sarah McLachlan song the way some long-haired mongoloids from Brooklyn would have. To prepare myself, I listened to nothing but Type O for about two weeks (may the Lord have mercy on my neighbors' souls). Since I play guitar, bass, keyboards, and sing, I tried to figure out what Josh would write and what sounds he would use, what riffs Kenny would come up with, and how Pete would add his Lurchness to the song. I may be stroking my own ego (among other things), but shit, I think I did a pretty good job. Thanks to those of you that enjoyed it, even though you were probably tricked into stealing it.
*The Moron*
For the record, “Possession†was never intended to fool anybody. I know you're probably thinking, "Hey, I was fooled! I hate being fooled! I'm going to kill whoever made me feel like an idiot!" Well that's not me. Like I said, the song was recorded in 1996. There was no Napster in 1996. As far as I know, there were no MP3's in 1996. I did make MP3s of my entire album a couple of years later, however, when I created my website. (I even have a page on mp3.com, but they would not let me upload any of my cover songs because of legal issues, so Possession is not up there.) Due to the nature of the internet, I have no idea where the MP3s I made ended up; hundreds of people came to my website to steal my music. Even the really shitty stuff. Anyway, my guess is that someone had a bunch of my MP3s lying around in a corner of their hard drive (probably somewhere next to the fake Hillary Clinton nude pics and the dirty Simpsons animation) and wasn't sure what the hell "possession.mp3" was, and said to themselves "Hey, I forgot I had this Type O Negative song!" Moron. But it's someone like this who renamed the damn thing and put it on Napster. I love this moron.
*WHAT THE?*
As with all of my MP3s, my contact information was included in the ID3 tag. (For the laymen, when you play the MP3, the player displays the artist's name as Mad Machinery, and has a link to my website and E-mail address.) So people started E-mailing me asking me to explain what the hell was going on. One person sent me a link to this message board where I saw a lot of confused people. Well, I hope those of you that still give a shit come back here and read this. That is my story. Enjoy it, believe it, disbelieve it, gag, etc...

Glad to clear that up.
