I don´t care about covers or names....I simply don´t like the music and vocals. If that makes me a fool or not, I simply don´t give a damn.

I didn't read any of this thread. I would just like to point out that it needs a spot for those like me who LOATHE Iced Earth to vote. Your poll results would be more accurate if you gave us the opportunity to express dislike for IE without the stupid " I don't listen to good music " option. Quite frankly, I feel that I have superb taste in music and not once in my collection will you ever find anything by Iced Earth or any other wussy power metal band that sounds anything like them.

In fact Tim owens the singer was in a judas priest tribute band before he joined Judas priest when Halford left ... So you won't be surprised by the vocals, I always thought he was the Halford clone, even on stage.

I don't say the guy is not good, he is an awesome vocalist, but with Priest he was just a guy trying to be someone he is not

Geoff

Geoff, If you didn't know, the movie Rock Star with Marky Mark is loosely based on the Judas Priest / Tim Owens thing

wow i didn't think many people around here would embrace the brilliance of Queen

If you don't respect Queen, you have no taste and no business ever speaking about music.

I thought that film was alright. Maybe part of that was Zakk Wylde's ...ahem ... acting

Amen to that last comment.

I was just trying to be nice, usually I come off as kind of a hardass. There are many other words I would have preferred to use but one of the mods would likely slap my hands.

well put... truthfully the only thing I enjoyed was Zakk's fake tattoos. Oh yeah, there was also a part where Marky Mark falls off of a riser. That was good too. Gotta love seeing a dude take a nosedive. Falling is funny!

Jon Schaffer hasn't thought of a new riff in a whole decade. Seriously, the earlier, thrashier stuff is great. I'm an absolute fan of NoTS and Burnt Offerings. It's aggresive and it sounds really evil... great how they managed to capture the athmosphere on those albums.

After they tried to be musicians so much that it backfired. It has become pretty standard heavy metal, nothing more. They should've just kept on thrashing, Jon Schaffer isn't a songwriter.

I finally got to see them this past April in Philly...fantastic show.

yep i was there too :D kickass show it was, my voice was so dead after from singing along to not only all of IE's songs, but Evergrey's and Bodom's as well... I could feel my voice going already after Bodom was done.. i dont see how Alexi can do it lol

I have a few albums, none that I paid for (promos). The early stuff is better than the later. Ripper Owens didn't do nothing to help to be frank. I saw them live with Matthew Barlow and Ripper Owens, it was OK with Matt and I left after 3 songs with Ripper, the man is no frontman all he does is stand and wail...

Not my thing at all

Maybe when i started this topic i should of put up diiferant topics. At the end of the day, Iced Earth are a bloody good band. Everyone should try them out. They are straight heavy metal, mixed with shades of iron maiden/early metallica. And now they have Ripper Owens on vocals. He is great. The old singer barlow had great bottom end, but Owens kinda has it all. I know some people love or hate certain bands. But i certainly isnt any of the crap kids listen to these days. most kids these days would probably say iced earth, who are they?. And i'd say exactly. You buy kerrang magazine and just buy the bands they tell you too. Rock mags these days are pretty crappy. Well terrorizor is pretty decent. :)

While it's true that Ripper Owens is a great vocalist, the option "This band sucks. Badly." is missing. My vote goes for that one.

Maybe if I tire of Maiden, I'll give them a proper go. :D
My tastes don't really lean too far in that direction I guess. Decent band, but not on that level where they transcend their genre.

I was considering picking up their 3 disc live album when I saw it really cheap, lots of music for a good price, someone was telling me it was their 'Live After Death'...
