A-Fuckin'-Men to that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't get that song out of my head ever since we got back from our tour with Opeth. That whole song absolutely destroys me !!!! My fave Opeth song by far !!!

Other amazing drum song's that I love....

Thomas Haake (Meshuggah) - New Millenium Cyanide Christ

Thomas pretty much lays down the best Metal beat EVER in the verse's of that song and at the very end !!! Un-deniable groove !!!!

Tim "Herb" Alexander (Primus) - Eleven

The start of that song on the Octabons is absolutely amazing ! Great feel with all the ghosting he does. That guy is fuckin' incredible !!!!

Vinnie Paul (Pantera) - Becoming

That double kick drum beat throughout that song fucked me up when I first heard it and it still does to this very day. What an awesome double kick groove !!!!

Dirk Verbeuren (Soilwork) - Blind Eye Halo

When I heard Stabbing the Drama for the first time, I was thinking that Dirk 's really holding back on this stuff compared to his other band Scarve.....then I heard Blind Eye Halo and he blew my mind !!! I love the drumming in this song.... CRAZY !!!!

Anything by Neil Peart and Stewart Copeland....both these guy's were huge influences on me at a young age !

I could go all night about so many other drummers and song's but these songs always jump to mind whenever I think of stand out tracks.

PS.... Chris, thanks for the kind words about my drumming on Synchestra. I'm happy to see the way you view it.... a little bit of everything  That's exactly what I wanted the drumming on that album to be !

The outro to Opeth's Deliverance = the sound that was being made while everything good in the world was created.

Hmmm... Hard to go past a couple that have already been mentioned:

Gene - the FLUKE. That fill is like rolling thunder. Best metal drummer I've heard.

Martin - Deliverance. What can I say that hasn't been said? That's about as metal as you an get without actually encasing yourself in lead and calling yourself Al Uminium. I find myself actually snarling when I listen to this song, even when I'm in public with my headphones on. Probably not good for the little kiddies.

Ian Paice - Space Truckin'. Never heard a drummer that sounds anything like Paicey... tight as a duck's proverbial and sounded like he was always on the verge of punching a hole in his snare. Tough.

Raymond Herrera - Self-Bias Resitor, Zero Signal... Ok, all of Demaufacture! It's the album that made me re-think what metal could be. I freakin' LOVE that drumming.

And others. Cool subject.

Did I really say that, a bit of everything? I mean... Where's the double RT!? Didn't you promise us to use it on this record? Ok... Maybe next time...

Oh, another name that I want to throw in: Gavin Harrison. Great work on the two albums he has done with Porcupine Tree so far. PT doesn't demand completely freakin' out on the kit, but it's amazing to hear how many details you can notice when you listen closely to the drums. Great hand/ feet coordination, too. At least from my point of view... And live he's amazing too. Very powerful.

Seco..Third... I mean, I concur. Awesome groove. They made similiar thing in "Harlequin forest" on last record. Martin Lopez is the man.

Things he do in Scarve are awe inspiring. I had no idea blastbeat can be played in so many ways. Even quiet ones ("Irradiant"). Add to that lots of unusual grooves ("Fire proven", for example, or "Crustscraper" for Luminiferous) and lots of cool cymbal things - this guy has some supernatural drumming powers, that's my fave drummer now.

Also Chris Adler of Lamb of God produces tons of powerful and catchy grooves. And I love Sean Reinert's work with Aghora, especially that d'n'bish groove in "Existence" and that funny thing he is doing with bass drums, which sounds like fluent changes of tempo or something.

I agree with others for Morgan Agren and Thomas Haake (especially on DEI, solo break in "Soul burn" owns).

And Gene, obviously. Prolly he would play half-minute interesting drum solo only on bass and snare drum, it's awesome how large can (relatively) small drumkit sound when played by him. Intro for OMFG made me think that he has eight limbs and/or very large drumkit back then.

Cool to see some people who are in to Scarve too. *nods in approval*

I was blown away when I heared it for the first time back then, too. The odd and almost snapper sounding kick drum tone (triggered as far as I know) coupled with that pattern...
Mr. Drumdude, can you please explain how that bassdrum pattern works? Double strokes?

And do you use triggers, too (I don't think so)?

Single stroke with triplets thrown in, is how I lear'nt it. Bad ass beat forsure !!!

As far as triggers go.... I have a Alesis D5 with the DDrum Bass Drum Trigger. I used it quite a bit for live scenario's, when I joined the DTB but never before that for any reason ! I was'nt really a trigger fan. Dev got me into them.

As it stands now....I'm back to not using a trigger. Ever since I got my new Pearl Reference Kit, there is no need to use triggers again. Mainly because the 22x20 Bass Drum I have on my new kit destroys any trigger sound out there, Dev even told me not to bother with a trigger anymore because he loves the punchy, warm sound of my new Kick Drum so much ! I also hit very hard and very consistent so my bass drum always comes out nice and loud on stage and through the front end. It's nice being back to acoustic Kick's cuz triggers can really be a pain in the ass from time to time, you never know when they'll break down and it really sucks when they do.

Hope that short story answers your question

Peter Wildoer of Darkane - so many badass moments. A few:

- The intro to Rape Of Mankind off of Rusted Angel
- The fills in A Wisdom's Breed off of Rusted Angel
- The cyborg precision shown on Frenetic Visions off of Rusted Angel

- You know what? ALL of Rusted Angel

- The insane fill when the song really kicks in on Third off of Insanity

- The amorphous time changes at the end of Innocence Gone off of Expanding Senses
- The sheer speed shown on The Fear Of One's Self off of Expanding Senses

- The psycho fill in the intro of Secondary Effects off of Layers Of Lies

Thomas Lejon of Andromeda:

- ALL of Extension Of The Wish. YOU figure out all the time signatures. I sure as hell can't, especially during In The Deepest Of Waters. I think there's some 10/16 or 11/16 stuff going on, but it changes so rapidly that I can't keep up.

Martin Lopez of Opeth:

- he's been mentioned many times already, for good reason. His style is so uniquely his. Watching the making-of both the Deliverance and Damnation albums on the Lamentations DVD gives a glimpse of just how talented he is, especially when they showcase him playing the outro to Deliverance. I think his work on My Arms, Your Hearse is vastly underrated as well.

Matt Modin in Nonexist (guitarist from Andromeda Johan Reinholdz's side project of modern technical death metal):

- Pretty much the whole album. And of course Johan's riffs are ridiculous. Check out Ebony Tower.

Dave Lombardo in Testament:

- Fall of Sipledom off of The Gathering. Holy HELL that song gets me pumped up.

Hellhammer in Arcturus:

- his drumming on all of The Sham Mirrors is so markedly unusual and memorable that it has to be mentioned here

Pretty much, thanks! :)

I could ask why you're using a single bass drum with a double pedal instead of two bass drums, it's not trOO, it's unkvlt and unmetäl...

Just kidding.
