I dunno.....I thought the Dr. X character from the first album had more of a Tim Curry/Christopher Plummer inflection to it.

"Kill Her. That's all you have to do"

"She's a risk. And get the Priest too!"

I so did not picture RJD when those lines were spoken.

The cover looks like a ripoff of Chili Peppers Bloodssugar sexmagik. Also Dr. X looks a lot like Mike Portnoy for some weird reason.

Still love Operation: Mindcrime but I admit Queensryche are just a little washed up. I have the DVD were they play a few songs from each album and the new guitarist just seemed out of place, and seemed to struggle with the dual soloing, he forced the band to slow the tempo for him everytime...Geoff also can't hit the same notes he used to, his voice sounds slightly flatter and strained, and that "sparkle" is gone from him if you know what I mean.

I will buy this album because it is my duty, my right as OPERATION: MINDCRIME LOVER..just got to hope the piss that is sprayed on it is not too acidic.

And maybe see them live for the first time!! :vin:

I really really like the Ryche, particually "Promised Land" (horribly underrated!). Been hearing about this for a while...I have high expectations. I've heard one song from it, "Hostage" I think it was, and it sounded solid. I will, of course, be getting this as soon as it comes out, let's just hope it isn't a bust...

The new guitarist has a different style, Kelly Gray had a different style. It happens. As for Geoff's voice, you're flat out wrong. He still NAILS the high notes! Listen to him sing "Take Hold Of The Flame" live and tell me that again. Some songs they've always played and sung different live, such as "The Killing Words."

And they're far from washed up. They're a good rock band now, they're just not a metal band anymore.

I don't know that I've ever heard anyone refer to Promised Land as "horribly underrated. Far out.

Well, I've seen the 'Ryche three times in concert. Once when Mindcrime first came out and they headlined Irvine Meadows for the first time (this was before they started playing the whole album in concert from beginning to end), then for the Empire tour (when they *did* do the whole album after an intermission). Then, just recently with Dream Theater and Fates Warning. They haven't gone to seed the way Vince Neil has, for example, but they are still not what they once were. Promised Land is probably not a bad album if you take it on it's own. But, compared to Rage, O:M, Empire, Warning, it's poor, in my opinion. It feels spineless.

I also did not like the new guitar player (as I believe I mentioned above) and Geoff does not sing like he used to. Yes, he can still hit high notes, but, like a lot of guys, the higher notes are beyond his reach. C'mon. It happens. There's no crime in it. But, Geoff is just not that "metal" anymore. He went nu-metal as did the band.

But, Scott Rockenfield is still one of the best drummers out there. Much repsect to Rockenfield. And their bassist is still one of the poorest. IMNSHO.

Promised Land is highly underrated! I think it's better than Empire. Promised Land is a killer, dark and brooding album. VERY underrated.

I will say that I am sick of people calling everything from In Flames to Slipknot to now Queensryche a nu-metal band. Queensryche have NOT gone nu-metal! They never have. Their current style has always been there, just overshadowed by more metal. They've taken away most of the metal elements and are now simply a hard rock band. Not alternative rock, not nu-metal, not anything but simply hard rock. That style has been around for ages.

And yes, Scott Rockenfield is an amazing drummer, also very underrated! That drum set from the Mindcrime era with the chains and shit, damn that thing was awesome!

Oh, come now, Eyesore. Have you seen Q'Ryche live lately? Geoff is bald with a big-ass biker chain, black t-shirt, wire rimmed shades and some kind of leather jacket. He doesn't look metal, he looks like Billy Corgan. And, then, you have that guitarrist playing with his hoodie up all concert long. What, is he cold? Keeping his ears warm?

All right, I'll stop calling them nu-metal. But, we can agree they are not remotely the same band anymore. Y'know, some bands change and it's an improvement (IMO, Rush, for example, or Porcupine Tree) but others it's just sad.

Yes, I have seen them lately. I've been seeing them live since Empire came out. I first saw them in 1989 with Def Leppard, but didn't pay attention to them. =(

Anyway, Geoff has always looked different. He's a HUGE Peter Gabriel fan, that's the music he loves. A look means nothing. And yes, the guitarist is different looking, again it means nothing.

Really?! You're not actually that naive. Are you? You think the look of a musician in commercial music means nothing? It might not mean anything to you in cataloging the musician's genre. But, it DOES mean something to many of the fans of that group. So, when I see them coming out looking like that I know exactly who they're trying to appeal to.

I don't agree that he's always looked different. When Queensryche was a metal band he looked metal. I saw them twice in concert and have the Livecrime video. I was a huge fan. They've changed. He's changed.

Promised Land had my favorite QR song on it: Someone Else? Of course, that was the only song I liked on it, which is more than I could say for any album after it. I want to believe that O:MC2 will be good, but there's a better chance of a talking moose and flying squirrel showing up to do my laundry on New Year's Day.

Well, I'm not saying Promised Land was bad. (I didn't say that, did I? Man, I hope not.) I'm just saying it's not to the same standard as previous albums. Heck, even Empire had a much lower content of Metal. It's like, if albums have labels on them describing their ingredients and they had the Recommended Daily Allowance of a given nutrient on there like food, then...

The Warning - 100% Metal
Rage For Order - 100% Metal
Operation: Mindcrime - 100% Metal
Empire - 90% Metal 10% Rock
Promised Land - 75% Metal 20% Rock 5% Alternarock
Hear in the Now Frontier - 60% Metal 5% Grunge 20% Rock 10% Alternarock 5% Adult Contemporary Soft Rock

After that I stopped buying Queensryche albums.

Looks mean nothing. It may mean something to you, but that doesn't make me naive at all. Geoff's metal look was that of a young man, that look was neither metal nor rock, but that look was the 80's in general! The guy is probably pushing 50 years old now and he's balding! Should he go with a skullet like Devin or Hulk Hogan? Maybe he's not a Hulkamaniac.

Generally, band's from the 80's looked that way to sell that image you're referring to, they usually change that image when they get older and realize it means nothing. Unfortunately, that's usually when people take it the wrong way.

Slayer once wore striped spandex! Should they still?

The full band version of "Someone Else" gives me chills!
