Talk about whatever you want to here, but stay correct

If they were going to confiscate and destroy all known copies of any recording by either Rush or Abba, which should get to survive? In other words, if you had to choose between either saving Rush or Abba, which do you choose?

Since you like listening to Dev, I would find it hard to believe you wouldn't like Rush. I am sure that Devin has been strongly influenced by Rush. As you say, Gene has been so influenced. Anyway, lots of people consider DTB prog in the good sense. I'm not one of those to use "prog" as a perjorative. But, then, I like prog so that might be why.

I got it, I was just tempted to f.. around with the "purveyor of prog" thing

Apart from that - I can't say if I'm into prog or not. See, for the most part, it's just because I don't know enough bands - including Rush. But I also refuse to say this about any other genre. I do listen to quite some metal bands, but I'd never call myself a metal fan. Sounds too general for me. Ehm... maybe with the exception of German Volksmusik

Damn, getting off topic... Just one thing: I always wanted to check out Rush (along with about 20 other bands I kept hearing of...), so thanks for the reminder!

Heh heh heh.

I like both bands, but I can't help liking ABBA more.

ACK! Alack! It cannot be!!! I knew that list existed but I didn't want to look, I guess. Ye gods, can it be true? Doth the Dev prefer Abba to Rush?

No. I cannot believe it. I shant believe it. I think that he made that list and just forgot to list Rush because, well, because it's too obvious.

Yeah, that's it. See, at the bottom it says, "Among many others!!!" Clearly that means, "like Rush for example and I like so many of their albums that I don't have time to list them all." It's just a given. :-D

Now that Raja has shown us the truth... Compromise! Let's say Rush are the Dev's second highest influence - right behind Abba!

And now that I think about it... Well, Earth Day always sounded a bit like Dancing Queen to me

You guys are too silly.

I always found Geddy's voice a little difficult to listen to. I mean, I'm used to it now, but I think I stayed away from them for that reason...in the past. Yeah. And I think others may have that same problem. Maybe?

I'm trying to rationalize this.

Hmm, to be totally fair I really should wait to hear an ABBA version of "Cygnus X-1" but since that doesn't look entirely likely in the short- to medium-term I'm gonna stick with Rush. :D

Actually, there's a little known version of "The Necromancer" by Benny and Bjorn that they made back in the Eurovision days. I'll have to look around online and see if I can find the mp3.
