Honestly, haven't really enjoyed much of what I've checked out. Cynic's new one was alright, bit cheesy. However, Gojira's latest one is quite good.

I'm hoping that Septic Flesh link was a joke. Will keep hanging out for the new one from Dillinger Escape Plan. At least I get to see Isis, Baroness, Meshuggah, Clutch, Jane's Addiction and Faith No More in a few weeks, yeah boyyyyy! Will be weird watching Isis outdoors in the daytime though...

I also have been falling away from any new music lately and found myself in a bit of a nitch with only a few certain bands I am listening to these days.

Barren Earth is the only new band I have found lately that has given me hope for good new music. An all-star Finnish band with ex-Amorphis members, Moonsorrow members and the vocalist from Swallow the Sun. Very good melodic death with big influences from Swallow the Sun and Opeth.

EDIT: The "Our Twilight" EP is fantastic with a mix of death and clean vocals. I highly recommend it. The debut full-length will be out in March and should probably be totally kick ass.

AlucardXIX wrote:Heavy music has become such a touchy matter. I can name off bands like Veil of Maya and After The Burial and tell you they are great (in my opinion of course) but someone else will of course say they suck. Heavy music is full of elitists, you just gotta try things out before making a big judgment.

Check out:
Periphery
Tesseract
Animals As Leaders
Between The Buried and Me(newer stuff is more accessible, I'd say.)
Darkane

I'm definitely digging Animals As Leaders. I plan on taking a road-trip in several weeks and that is one of the albums I had picked for the road.

As amazing as Animals as Leaders are, check out Reflux, the guitarist was in the band before AaL, and they were fantastic. They actually opened for SYL back in 2004/05ish.

Great music.

I've honestly never checked them out even though I knew Tosin played for them.
