Ok mate, what I know about life you could fit on the head of a pin, but here's my two long and rambling cents (hey, you asked for it!)...
I felt exactly the same when I was in high school. Ugh, that was 13/14 years ago. How depressing! Anyway, ignore the fact that I'm ancient, hehe!
I hated school, had zero motivation to go to class and didn't enjoy any of the subjects available, or at least not to the point where I'd ever have considered a career that would have resulted from them. I mean, making mouse trap cars and drawing pictures was fun but I would NEVER have been interested in engineereing. *YAWN*
I wanted to finish school early, same as yourself. So I went to my Dad about it, and for one of the few times in my life he really put his foot down and said no. The problem was that I didn't have a plan. I didn't want to do an apprenticeship and I didn't have a job lined up. Not even as a trolley boy at the supermarket. Point is, I toughed it out (if going to about 50% of classes is toughing it out) and I got my certificate.
I guess what I'm getting at is don't stress it, and keep doing what you're doing: Talking to people about it. I turned 30 last year and I only started the job I love and want to make a career out of 6 weeks ago! And if at all possible, try to stick it out because, down here at least, it's getting harder and harder to get good jobs without finishing school.
And, more importantly, TRY different things. If you want to see what's out there, get a job stacking shelves or something. Save up a whole wad of cash and jump on a plane. Go meet people. If you have a hobby, see if there's a job you can get out of it. If you don't have a hobby, try shit out. I started out being deathly afraid of fucking things up and it would stop me from trying things out... What i figured out eventually is that no one REALLY cares if you try a job or a uni course or something on for size and you find that you don't like it. And if they do, so what? It's your life, not theirs. At least you gave it a shot... time to find something else.
It's a big-arsed world out there with a million opportunities and you only start REALLY learning shit when you get out there and makes some proper mistakes.
