The Rasmus started out I think 12 years ago, known as just Rasmus. They did some form of funk rock sung in Finnish, then they started doing english stuff and changed their name and style a little.

As far as I know, they have released 7 albums, but they don't talk about the first albums. Kinda like how Pantera did. They don't mention much of their pre-Cowboys albums

Edit:
I wasn't too far off:

I liked them when they played ska-punk.. :(

I don't understand why they've become so popular outside Finland, I can't stand them.

Amorphis
Sentenced
Rotten Sound
Charon
Wigwam (70's prog)
Deathchain
Thyrane
Sonata Arctica
EndPointZero (previously known as ...and Oceans)
Kingston Wall
Kyyria
Pain Confessor
Scorngrain

There's some other bands that some people like, but I don't personally like them much:

Children of Bodom
Kotiteollisuus
Mokoma
Diablo
Stratovarius
Him
Nightwish

Amorphis
Stam1na

The singer and the guitarist from Stam1na are big Devy fans. Lyrics are in finnish but you can hear some inspiration in the vocals. They said that especially in the coming album. Riffs are quite original. Meshuggahesque, Soadish. They are quite original and I quite recommend :) http://www.stam1na.com

I strongly recommend these :D
But when you listen to Amorphis you must realize that the band is 15 years old and its music is pretty different now than what it was in the early days.

Also Wintersun is a great metal band. Anyone who likes fast metal will love this. Jari Mäenpää (vocals, guitars, synths....) is a huge fan of devin. The drummer Kai Hahto is equal or maybe even better than Gene.

Finnish bands that are worth one's time:

-Wintersun
-Kingston Wall
-Kyyria (Inner wellness is still a good album me thinks)
